When asked about the greatest pleasure in his profession, Billyo answered, "It’s the experience of painting outside. The snow, strong wind, cold, muggy heat, mosquitoes, they all remind me of life and how we must stay focused and keep pushing on." "As I think about masses, color, relationships, the harmony of the piece, value, strokes and textures and combine them with the energy of the land and the environment around me, it transcends the quality of staying focused and persevering in life." The recipient of many awards in painting, Billyo's work has been shown at selected exhibitions throughout the United States including the Haggin Museum's “Sea to Shining Sea.” He currently has work exhibited at his studio in St. Charles at the Foundry Art Centre and at the following galleries that show his work; Helena Fox Fine Art in Charleston, South Carolina. The Arts Company in Nashville Tennessee. Mike Carroll Gallery on the Island of Lanai. Kodner Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri. Billyo is highly regarded for his effective teaching methods and lectures and considered: "One of a select group of landscape painters," by The Haggin Museum, Stockton California "One of the top 50 landscape painters in America," by the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association "Some of the country's best artists," by Maui Magazine as a participant in the 2006 Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational |
